Success for Home Instead franchise Kildare

Success stories are always good news, and the success of a Kilcullen-based home care organisation is good news not only for the business but for the people in Kildare and Laois it has been able to help in just over a year in business.

Home Instead Senior Care was launched early last year and the response to the organisation’s home care service offering has been greater than expected. Owner and Managing Director Amanda Bohan said: “We have 80 clients in Kildare and Laois and have grown to a team of 55 caregivers, offering everything from round-the-clock care to just an hour or two a week”.

“This is beyond our expectations at the beginning and is a very positive sign that we are going to be successful”.

“Helping people to remain independent in their own homes with the support that they need is a very rewarding and worthwhile thing to do and the early response has allowed us to recruit more caregivers, thus allowing continuity of caregiving staff to each individual so that, as far as possible, they see the same caregiver and build up a lasting and trusting relationship”, continued Amanda Bohan.

“Our encouraging start means we are confident that any new clients will be able to secure the level of care they need, and that we will have appropriately trained and qualified staff they need to help them.”

Home Instead caregivers are professionally trained, insured, thoroughly screened, Garda checked and matched to meet client’s needs. Training includes:

• FETAC 5 - Practical Home Care Skills

• Safe client moving and handling

• Personal care

• Person Centred dementia care (Training supported by Dementia Services Information and Development Centre, St James Hospital)

• Caring for people with chronic conditions such as Arthritis (Training approved by Arthritis Ireland)

• Palliative care

This means Home Instead caregivers are provided with the latest in education and home care techniques, so local families can be assured their senior loved one is being care for by a trusted professional. The organisation is also committed to helping local families better understand senior care issues such as arthritis and dementia and has therefore produced a range of information guides on senior care issues. For example, a new booklet is available to help family carers better understand dementia. Entitled, ‘Dementia Care at Home: A Guide for Family Caregivers’, the booklet explains the different forms of dementia and advises carers on how to manage stress.
